Elektrobit Automotive Software Creates Wideband Access to Autos
Free for publication, March 8, 2007

Erlangen, March 8, 2007 - The Erlangen software company Elektrobit Automotive Software is bringing the first certified TCP/IP stack for automotive control devices to the market. With a data
throughput of about 3 MB per second, the TCP/IP stack opens new possibilities for fast data access to autos.

The development has been checked and certified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Communication Systems (ESK) in Munich for conformity with all relevant standards, thus verifying production quality. The first series application, in BMW autos, is planned over the next two years.

The platform-independent stack implementation in MISRA-C is designed and optimized for resourcesparing use in control devices with OSEK or similar operating systems. The chosen stack architecture combines the dynamic nature of the TCP/IP protocol with the static environment within an electronic control unit. It is just this property which distinguishes it from alternative TCP/IP solutions.

Thanks to a broad range of configuration possibilities, the reliable TCP/IP stack is scalable for use in many different applications. This allows optimizing the relationship between high data throughput and high performance or minimal RAM utilization – as needed. Analyses are supported by an optional statistics module for determining the ideal configuration. In addition, the stack includes a DHCP client for the dynamic allocation of IP addresses.

For Elektrobit Automotive Software, the stack represents an initial supplement to the existing ECU AUTOSAR tresos® and OSEK-conformant products. This ensures that the TCP/IP stack can be smoothly integrated in an AUTOSAR software environment for future applications.
