Excellent Data Handling: Offboard Enterprise Databases (ULDB) and Client / Server Solutions

EB Engineering Services ECU takes the next decisive step in the offboard solutions area: We offer you our service competency for the complete data handling of ECUs. The ideal linking of ECUs with the Ultra-Large-Databases world and the resulting client/server architectures.

We combine our competency from the ECU and embedded systems world with experience gained from the Ultra-Large-Databases (ULDB) world with more than 500 GB data, as well as client/server based architectures for data handling and warehousing. This combination is unique on the market for automotive software and has already been used successfully by EB.

To clarify this, we describe in detail a reference project below.

An Automotive Database Reference Project (1): Electronic Fault Information System

The specific key features of the project:

  • Offboard client/server solution for automobile production
  • Fault acquisition and cause input for electronic and mechanical vehicle components
  • System based on a standardized description systematic scheme for faults and their causes
  • Comprehensive evaluation, statistical and reporting capabilities
  • ULDB area: Database size exceeds 1000 GB
  • Focus on performance-optimized implementation

Scope:

  • Approximately 20 man-years
  • 6 to 10 project employees

EB is responsible for the complete software lifecycle of this project:

  • Technical design and system architecture
  • Implementation
(Oracle ULDB, Web frontend, J2EE, WebSphere/Tomcat Application Server)
  • Automated tests for frontend and database
  • Roll-out at currently two locations (factories) with a total of five assembly lines, producing a total of 1500 vehicles per day
  • User training
  • Hand-over to IT operations
  • Operational support (2nd and 3rd level)

Since February 2008, EB has been using the agile project methodology (Scrum) for project implementation with great success.
