EB Tough VoIP™
Ruggedized defense communication solution.
EB Tough VoIP is a ruggedized Voice over IP defense communication solution. It can be used as the IP voice and data communication system for defense applications requiring deployment of any system components to outdoor conditions and extreme service reliability. EB Tough VoIP is best suited to applications where wired infrastructure can be utilized locally, and over a wider area. Therefore EB Tough VoIP infrastructure can act as a primary or back-up communication solution for applications that rely on radio communications and should not be compromised in case of jamming or other electronic countermeasures (ECM) activities.
EB Tough VoIP allows for high levels of security through utilization of data encryption and authentication mechanisms. The EB Tough VoIP units are self-installing and self-healing, and can work independently of network services that are commonly required in IP-based voice communications. In other words, the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) services are utilized if available but are not a necessity.
The EB Tough VoIP units can also be utilized as part of a customer's existing communication infrastructure. The EB Tough VoIP Terminal™ can be used with application-specific headsets and handsets that are commonly used with tactical radio or digital field telephony equipment.
The Network Extender™ is an integrated unit that provides the functionalities of a VoIP terminal, Ethernet switch and multi-channel SHDSL (Single-Pair High-speed Digital Subscriber Line) modem and it can be used to provide broadband wired connectivity and VoIP services to the field, in LAN or WAN configuration. Wider area network services can be constructed by chaining of the Network Extenders through long-distance wiring. Broadband data connections can be built for distances of more than 10km between any two Network Extender units. The Network Extender's VoIP services can be used through a speaker accessory, or with the same headsets and handsets, as with the Terminal unit. Push-To-Talk functionality is also supported.
The EB Tough VoIP solution is aimed at fast and easy deployment and once the initial system configuration has been made, system deployment only requires connecting the wires and powering up. The principal idea is to introduce the ease of use of the old analogue applications to the technology of today.
EB is targeting system integrators, original equipment manufacturers and technology vendors, in the defense and public safety markets, to help them expand their product portfolios. The products are offered both as EB branded as well as white-label for customer branding.
In addition, EB offers flexibility in customizing the solution to better meet different customer-specific requirements.
Reference Application for the Finnish Air Force
The Finnish Air Force is utilizing the EB Tough VoIP solution for airfield communication, connecting the fighter jets' intercom and ground mechanics to the IP-based voice and data services. This enables the chain of command to be kept intact and the delivery of last minute information to the pilot and ground mechanic – with immunity from ECM and radio reconnaissance.
