The Company
EB's HMI tool EB GUIDE Studio is made for modeling and specifying complex HMI systems, ranging from low- to high-level infotainment systems. Since 2004 EB supplies various OEM and Tier1 customers with this solution.
The Challenge
In the past, infotainment systems had been developed for a certain car model, only. After start of production these systems were still maintained but further re-engineering or reusability was very challenging. Thus, new systems with different feature sets and country specific requirements had to be started from scratch. Today, it is even more important to use resources in an economical and efficient way because each HMI project has to handle different country and language requirements, numerous features and display variants as well as more than thousands of user dialogs.
The Solution
Since 2004, EB's HMI engineers have worked on solutions to optimize the development of infotainment systems over many generations. Currently, EB GUIDE Studio is one of the most used HMI development tools for successful HMI production.
First projects, e.g. AUDI 3G MMI, showed that reusability is possible when using EB GUIDE Studio. One project can provide the foundation for following projects. Different user interfaces and skins can be mapped to the same core system. This means in detail that the structural behaviour remains the same whereas the data pool and the look and feel can be changed. By using modules and merging the existing project into a new one, old structures can be re-used and integrated into a new system, e.g. from a mid-level navigation system to a low-level system.
The Benefit
During the last years, EB found out through different customer projects that the reusability of the system behaviour can be increased up to 95% for a following project. The development time can be reduced by factor 10. This means that a new project which might cause costs in a range of some million Euros can be much affordable with only costs of some hundred thousand Euros.
