Elektrobit brings the mobile experience to automotive at Mobile World Congress

February 25, 2019

New, Android-based infotainment and connected car solutions open up new infotainment and connectivity options for drivers

BARCELONA, FEBRUARY 25, 2019 – Elektrobit (EB) is bringing digital innovations for mobile devices to connected cars at Mobile World Congress from February 25-27 in Barcelona. At their booth (Hall 6, Stand B50), EB will be showcasing new driving experiences, powered by their latest engineering services for Android Automotive, Amazon Alexa-integrated cockpit solutions, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates for connected and secure cars.

The automotive industry is currently experiencing a disruptive change. Driven by automated driving and connectivity, the classic vehicle is transforming into a software-defined Internet of Things (IoT) device. Consumers expect the same user experience and feature richness from vehicles as they do for their smartphones. This changing ecosystem has created a powerful need for flexibility and personalization.

At MWC, EB will present solutions for every aspect of this transformation, including an Android-based cockpit software platform with Alexa capabilities that combines relevant driving information with infotainment applications. Possible applications for this solution would be, for example, car sharing or multi-user-scenarios, where users can easily customize user interfaces and personalize their driving experience on demand.

“Our cars are becoming an extension of our mobile phones, yet, they need to last longer than the latest piece of tech,” said Martin Schleicher, Executive Vice President Business Management at Elektrobit. “Elektrobit is shaping this transformation through integrated software solutions that combine the usability of consumer technologies like Android and Alexa, to meet the high demands on reliability and quality we expect in our cars.”

Demonstrations at MWC showcase the latest solutions for connected cars like:

  • An Android-based cockpit software platform integrated with Amazon Alexa that enables functions like streaming media, controlling smart home devices, setting reminders, checking weather reports, and accessing tens of thousands of Alexa skills.
  • EB GUIDE, a tool and software framework that allows car makers to create personalized user interfaces with stunning graphics and animations, haptics such as gestures and touch, and speech technology to offer car drivers and passengers a unique and emotional experience in the car.
  • EB cadian Sync, a connected car solution that allows car makers to enable safe and secure over-the-air (OTA) software updates in their vehicles.
