Delphi: HMI automatic code generation process

Products: EB GUIDE

The Company

Delphi is a leading global supplier of electronics and technologies for the automotive segment, commercial vehicle segment, and other market segments. Operating major technical centers, manufacturing sites, and customer support facilities in 30 countries, Delphi delivers real-world innovations that make products smarter and safer as well as more powerful and efficient.

The challenge

Delphi was looking for an innovative solution to implement an automatic code generation process for the human machine interface (HMI) of radios for Volkswagen. The input for the code generation was delivered in machine-readable form in a proprietary XML format. EB had to handle an enormous number of variants for different countries and brands.

The Solution

EB developed the HMI software and implemented a plug-in to import the customer-specific XML into EB GUIDE Studio.

Quotation from Dr. Wilhelm Steger

Managing Director Infotainment & Driver Interface Europe, Delphi

“For such complex radio HMI development, time and costs were shortened, higher flexibility with regards to maintenance and feature upgrades has been reached through automatic code generation with EB GUIDE Graphics Target Framework.”

The Benefit

More than 230 version releases with 75 series approvals were delivered on schedule between 2010 and 2013. Daimler and EB benefit from the win-win situation of ISO 26262 (functional safety). Experts from both houses have worked very closely since 2010, so that the topic of ISO 26262 is now naturally considered and implemented in the development process.

Thanks to this valuable partnership, Daimler is able to concentrate on driver assistance algorithm development and self-driving vehicles. Passing progressively more tasks and responsibilities to Elektrobit supports Daimler’s goal of focusing on their core competence: building innovative cars. At present driver assistance software developed with the support of EB covers the whole Daimler fleet—from smart to the S-Class 2013 and C-Class 2014.
